"Madison singer/songwriter Jason Turner recently surpassed his $5,000 goal through Pledge Music, raising enough to fund his new album. Post-goal, a portion of pledges will go to Blair E. Baton Hospital for Children. "What I liked about Pledge Music is that you could give to a charity," said Turner, noting he's been to Blair E. Batson a few times with a hurt child. "I really wanted to help out." Find out more about his project at http:// www.pledgemusic. com/ projects/ jasonturnernewalbum. His aim is to make a more professional album in Nashville that'll showcase his introspective pop/rock songs and take his music to the next level. He'll start tracking the album in May, working with producer Steve Blaze of Lillian Axe. Turner, who'd written about 60 songs since his last release, sent Blaze four CDs' worth of tunes - "well, here's the box set," Turner joked. "He helped me weed through my ADD of writing too many songs." He hopes to have the album out late summer or early fall."

"Musician Jason Turner is farther along in his career, having already released three albums, he's hoping to social media and it's crowd funding features can play a big role in producing his fourth. Turner is using Pledge music, an online fundraising tool, to rake in enough capital to pay for studio time and a producer. Turner has 60 days to raise 5000, in the first 30 he has raised 3900. The surplus will be donated to the Blair E Batson Children's Hospital. "That's part of the appeal" Turner said last week as he was traveling to Austin, Tx. to play at South by Southwest. Turner has the chance to come out of this process debt free, something he hasn't been able to do with past releases. Turner has saturated Twitter and Facebook asking fans to donate whatever they can. "It definitely feels weird to be all over the internet saying 'Hey I need some money' you know?" Turner said. "But it evens the playing field. You can raise the money yourself and put out the album. It's pretty exciting""

"Best Local Singer, Best Local Musician: Jason Turner It all began with a philosophy similar to "One for all, and all for one" when Jason Turner and his three-man band took on the Jackson music scene back in 1997 at the Jubilee!JAM. Now, almost 15 years later, he's the winner of the Best Local Singer and Musician awards. Turner is a connoisseur of music and has mastered the art of playing three instruments: piano, guitar and bass guitar. He is a self-proclaimed perfectionist and has made himself known throughout the nation for his songs "Nothing Town," "Hotter Than the Sun" and "Tonight." —Brittany Kilgore"

"PERFECT ROAD TRIP MUSIC My first experience with great music was when Counting Crows tangled Whiskytown’s “In Town” with their hit “Round Here” I heard the lyrics and ran to T-Bone records and bought Whiskytown’s Strangers Almanac. I still have the CD and every Whiskytown CD they ever made. At some point Ryan Adams decided he could live his life Without Caitlin Carey and broke out on his own and married Mandy Moore. Nothing against Mandy Moore but, I’m a chick and I’d take Caitlin Carey over Mandy Moore ANY day. She’s got killer harmonies and I’ve got killer legs so we could make the whole thing work. Anyway, back the The Jason Turner Band- I’ve loved a ton of artists but the first cords from this band took me straight back to my first true music experience. Just one song and you’ll be ready to ice down the cooler, load up and hit a back road or just chill at the deer camp. Maybe even take that long weekend in New Orleans you’ve been meaning to take. "

"The Jason Turner Band, a local country/rock band with an alternative vibe, won the C Spire Wireless 2011 Bulldog Bash contest and will open this Friday for Jake Owen and The Avett Brothers according to Rhett Hobart, Student Association president. The band's new album, 13 years, released in August, is generally an upbeat and lyrically stirring set of songs. Accompanying the overall country feel to many of the songs are a mixture of musical influences. Fans of rock and pop will clap to the beat of "Tonight," or the more rock-oriented song, "Another Like You." Others will appreciate the blues/rock feel of "Haunt Me," which is reminiscent of The Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses." The band consists of Jason Turner on guitar and vocals, Adam Perry on bass, Matt Newman playing drums and Jay Wadsworth playing pedal steel and guitar. Hobart said last year's Bulldog Bash show brought in 35,000 people, a number this year he hopes will be beaten. "We're all excited about it""

"Bulldog Bash Winner Rocktwang is one way Jackson native Jason Turner describes his music. Southern rock, alt-country, Americana-whatever you call it, it's a genre that is versatile enough to appeal to many tastes. As evidence, The Jason Turner Band won the 2011 Bulldog Bash contest, C Spire Wireless announced in September. Self-taught since age 12, Turner says he didn't come from a particularly musical family. "As a teen, I found music as a release to some things I was dealing with," he says. In addition to playing five to six days a week, Turner does his own booking, manages his website and lugs multiple guitars and equipment into a gig. Turner is expanding his base and developing a more regional following. In 2010, he independently released his first album, "13 Years," available through iTunes. He is working on his next CD, which Nashville-based Americana artist and producer Will Kimbrough will oversee. "You've got to keep stuff coming out for people to stay interested." "

"Jason Turner is a straightforward songwriter, telling small, confessional stories in plain talk. The introspective lyrics are matched by good old American balladry and mid-tempo strum fests. Turner's country rock roots are on full display on “13 Years” and at its best, he shines as a capable songwriter, an original voice in a well-worn genre. The production is slick throughout the album and at times sounds a little too polished for the heartbreakers and honest apology songs that he delivers here. “13 Years” is not too sugary to swallow by any means, but it would easier to hear Turner's sincerity without all the gloss and reverb. Most of the songs on the album invite comparisons to Ryan Adams, John Mellencamp and even John Mayer, but Turner's maturity, strong melodies and avoidance of clichés allow him to stake a small, well-earned claim in the shadow of those striding giants of pop and Americana. Other notable tracks are “Tonight,” “Haunt Me” and “Imperfect and True."

"The Jason Turner Band is practically a Jackson institution after performing for 13 years. Turner's unique voice resonates through each venue as the band cranks through its shows. Always happy to take requests, he feels out the crowd and sings through the night. "

"Jason Turner strums the acoustic guitar in his lap as comfortably and casually as some stroke the ears of their best dog."Storytelling," is the word he pulls out for his music, a prolific batch of songs that also fit under a broader Americana umbrella, gathering up alt-country leanings and touches of blues and rock.
